CBT Motorcycle Course For Novice Riders
A1 allows you to ride a scooter, small motorbike, and ride as a passenger on a pillion in the event that you are 17 years old or older.

Compulsory basic training (CBT)

The next part of the CBT is practical riding on a site. After having passed Module 1, you will proceed to Module 2 test, which is conducted on the road. The examiner will guide you on a short ride around the neighborhood and you'll be given 35 minutes to complete it on your own. The examiner is testing your ability to multitask while following road signs and will require that you have demonstrated good driving abilities.
After successfully passing both your Module 1 and Module 2, you'll be able to enjoy the freedom of an A1 light licence. This permits you to ride bicycles up to 125cc without the requirement of an instructor's license. Additionally, you will no longer have to display your L plates. A1 licences also permit you to ride with a passenger and you don't have to take the CBT every two years. This is an excellent option for those looking to experience the excitement of motorcycling. The next step up from an A1 license is the A license that is unrestricted and requires a valid driving licence.
Module 2 Practical Test
After you've completed Module 1 and your theory test, you are now able to take the practical part of your motorcycle licence - Module 2. This test will give you an A1 licence that allows you to ride a motorcycle up to 125cc with power of up to 11 BHP. You can also carry a passenger and ride on motorways.
The Mod 2 test is an independent riding test lasting about 10 minutes. During this, the examiner will be following you along a predetermined route that will vary based on road and traffic conditions. The route will include busy intersections, roundabouts and dual carriageways and you'll need to be able to ride in diverse conditions.
Module 2 will test your ability to recognize the road ahead, anticipate traffic and navigate roads. This is crucial because it allows you to make decisions quickly when out on the road. You will have to be able to react quickly, for instance, you are driving down the road and spot a car moving into your path.
It is also expected to be able to demonstrate good control at a slow speed. This includes being able to move away with ease, stop with confidence, and retaining speed. It's also important that you demonstrate good brakes and be able to make a smooth U-turn if needed.
You'll also be assessed in regards to your ability to signal and shift gears. You'll be asked prior to overtaking another vehicle and at the exit of a junction and also change gears if needed.
