Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases item level by 3. A random additional substat is also increased with every upgrade.
Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect model.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.
You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each few weeks.
The cost of upgrading will be based on the current level of the equipment being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than buying new equipment from other sources. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from another player will cost 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased from NPCs of item upgraders in a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool or armor. button, which displays an item's preview at the next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.
The upgrade cost depends on the item slot and the current item level and the weapon's price is higher than bracers or gloves, for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. After an
item level upgrade has been upgraded to a certain amount, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.
Many locations offer
Best item upgrade upgraders which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon as well as the possibility of getting a new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players finish certain achievements or quests.

They are available in four ranks.
The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be spent on equipment that is of a particular rank, and each rank has different requirements for upgrading. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, based on the type of gear being upgraded.
Players can earn crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and performing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. The crests can then be exchanged with an
item Level upgrade upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and paths.
Using these new currencies isn't that difficult however, the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it will no longer require Flightstones. This change lets players upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.
