The Item Upgrader in World of Warcraft
The War Within introduced two gear upgrade currencies, Valorstones and Harbinger Crests. These can be exchanged at the
item upgrader kit upgrader NPCs, Cuzolth and Vaskarn.
Each item can be upgraded to the highest level for a specific slot once. Upgrades to that slot will be cheaper following. The pity system, introduced with The War Within, also reduces the extreme variance of upgrades.
Upgrades
Upgrades are parts that enhance performance or add new functionality. They can be purchased or earned through a variety of ways, including in-game events and cash shop items.
Upgrades are only available to specific items. As opposed to enchantments, which can be added to any item they are only available to the item they are attached to. The upgrade textures are rendered over the item model which hides enchantment information as well as other details.
Upgrades can be costly. Every step in a gear's stage of upgrade costs a certain amount of Valorstones or crests depending on the slot and item level. Weapons generally require more crests and Valorstones to upgrade than bracers or gloves for instance. There are however some cash shop items that can help lower the cost of upgrading.
Recycles
