World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading
Item upgrading allows players to increase the gear score of an item up to 700, and then add an additional perk. Items can be upgraded if they're in your inventory and you take them to the kiln.
Certain items can be upp'd for their unique stats (like a perfectly broken point armour that is rolled for melee PvP) while others like weapons don't change much post upgrade, so they aren't worth upgrading.
Weapons
Weapons can be upgraded to improve their numeric stats, such as the chance to crit, attack damage PvE and PvP damage. Weapons also come with a flat bonus that increases their damage per second. Many weapons also come with a fixed bonus which is activated when three or more identical weapons are equipped in a group. This bonus may be more than the damage that an upgrade can do on its own.
The cost of upgrading a weapon depends on its rarity and current level. For example the weapon with a +2 rating will require two regular Smithing Stones to upgrade while the +3 model requires four. The number of stones required to
upgrade item a weapon will continue increase until it requires a higher tier of Smithing Stones, at which point it will reset to one.
The upgrade of weapons can also change their base stats. While this is generally a good thing however, it could have negative consequences too. Upgrades can make items inaccessible, unless you're exceptionally lucky.
Items of armor can also be upgraded to boost their stats. For example, if you upgrade chests or helms, it will boost the defense of its base, while gloves and belts increase their strength and dexterity. Armor also offers an option to reroll its Enhanced Defense percent, which means that it could roll back to a lower number.
The upgrade template of a weapon will show the new stats that it will gain after upgrading, along with the values of these stats. This means that a weapon will gain 3% attack damage if it is upgraded from an 8 attack damage sword to an 11 attack damage sword. However the 3% does not mean that it will strike for 3 fewer times because it's an absolute statistic.
A weapon can be rerolled by pressing the green button, which is accompanied by circling arrows in the
item upgrades menu. This will reroll the
item upgrader mod and alter its stats however, it will not reset the weapon's level nor connect to the status of your account.
Armor
A few tweaks to your armor could make a a huge difference in your ability to endure. Certain sets can provide MASSIVE improvements in the resistance to curses, poison fire, magic, and other. This can make it easier to navigate difficult areas. Generally speaking, the more defense your character is, the more value you get from every point of health you possess therefore it is important to improve your armor as much as possible.
You can upgrade your armor by visiting one of the Great Fairy Fountains. There are four Great Fairy Fountains within the game and in order to unlock them all, you must complete an additional quest involving the Stable Trotters. Once you've completed the main quest and the corresponding fountains, you'll have the option of talking to any Great Fairy in order to unlock the armor upgrade menu.
The amount of material needed to upgrade each piece of armor is different. In general, you'll be looking at anywhere between three Red Chuchu jellies and 10 Rupees for the initial upgrade, then anywhere between five Rubies and 10 Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns for each subsequent upgrade. For example the Champion Leathers can be upgraded to +5 defense, which allows you to keep up with a good-sized group of adversaries in most cold environments, and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded up to +20 defense, granting you enough protection to withstand a full on raid with a few of your friends.
Be aware that armor can't be upgraded in the same manner as weapons, so you'll want to work on upgrading it for physical strength if you're a Warrior or Spell Power if you're Mage. It's also a good idea to save your armor upgrades to use for armor you'll still be wearing at the end of the game, such as the Ring of Lightning and Spectral Shield or the helmet you use to fight the final boss, the Monter Parts Merchant's mask.
You can also unlock some perks for your armor by giving the jeweler in Gerudo Town 10 Twinkling Titanite. Generally speaking, you'll want to keep these upgrades for the weapon you'll use to beat the game, like the Longsword, Battleaxe or Warhammer, but it can be beneficial to have a few upgrades of the chest armor and helmets that allow you to stealth around some monsters.
Potions
Potions are liquids that when consumed by a player, provide an immediate effect. There are five different types of potions, each with particular effects and durations. Certain potions can be upgraded, enhancing their effectiveness. Alternatively the effects of some potions can be enhanced by adding redstone or glowstone dust them.
Upgrades to your potion require a specific amount XP. This can be obtained by crafting them on a crafting table or by storing them in the Alchemist chest. The cost of upgrading varies based on the type of potion as well as the item's rarity as well as Mark Level.
To upgrade a potion, right-click on it in your inventory and choose the "Upgrade" option from the menu. This will open an GUI where you can select the potions you wish to upgrade and the amount of XP they will produce when upgraded. The upgrade of potions can be completed in batches of up to five at a time, and the XP that they generate will be added to your current XP level.
Once a potion has been upgraded, it will not be degraded until you use it again or break the bottle it is stored in. You can also change the name of the potion by clicking it in your inventory.
Version 1.7.2 introduced a few changes to the mechanics of potions. Splash potions, for instance have now a duration of zero, not the 22.5 seconds shown on the hover display for the item. The table for potion can now be constructed using four Wood Planks and two Glass. This allows it to be utilized by players in Survival and Bedrock. Bedrock Edition potions are not compatible with cauldrons, unlike Java Edition. Similarly, using a potion on a full cauldron, it drains the contents and refills the bottle.
Lastly, there are now lingering potions, which are brewed with splash and dragon breath potions. Redstone is also added to lingering potions to enhance their effects. The table of potion ingredients is rearranged to look more like the Java Edition. New potions have also been added, for instance, the potion of leaping and decomposition.
Trinkets
A trinket is a small and inexpensive ornament or piece of jewelry. It could be a reference to an object or decoration that serves a function but isn't particularly significant such as a trinket. In certain cultures, a trinket is used to symbolize friendship or affection, especially between family members.
In addition to weapons, armor and potions, players are able to upgrade their trinkets. Upgrades can be purchased by paying the appropriate currency to an upgrade vendor. In contrast to other upgrades for items, trinkets can be swapped out at will without losing their stats.
The upgrade vendors are located in major cities and the capital of each zone, and in some cases, dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets can be purchased using tokens, gold or fragments of a rare trinket.
Upgrading a trinket is an economical alternative to buying a new one. You can upgrade their trinket for as little as 12 tokens. The new trinket will have the same base level as the old trinket, but will also have an additional bonus of 1% upgrade.
Trinkets can be re-upgraded once the old ones are no longer needed, allowing a player to increase their power and value over time.
