How to Replace the Ignition Key in an XC90 Saab
It's probably time to replace your SAAB key fob if it's having trouble turning the barrel of your lock. The process is fairly simple and you don't even need to visit a dealership. You can complete the process at home, using a couple of basic tools.
First, you'll need prepare the new key. Before you start, disable the anti-theft system by placing blocks underneath your rear wheels, and then releasing your handbrake. Insert the key into the ignition and turn the key to the "on" position. This will activate the accessories, but it will not start the engine. Repeat this procedure five times, and then leave the key in the on position.
You'll then have to buy an additional case for your key fob. They are readily available at many auto parts stores and are typically very affordable. Depending on the model, you can even get them without any electronic components.
To open up the case, insert a flathead screwdriver inside the slot located in the middle and gently work it. The case will break easily, and once you've got it open, you'll get access to the internal electronics. Use a flathead screwdriver to gently remove the electronic components.
