World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to an item are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it can increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.
Upgrades to gear in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specific amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's basic stats increases when it is upgraded. This value is the sum of an
item upgrade's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive depending on the person you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the variety of perks that must be modified to upgrade an item.
The level of an item is a popular measure of power, and can be found on all tooltips for items. It also serves to limit the amount of PvP gear players are able to wear as PvP is restricted at a lower level. Players can see their average level of items on their character sheet.
Using the item level will allow players to compare the strength of equipment when deciding to purchase or sell. It's a good gauge of an item's worth and how much damage it is capable of dealing with. The level of an item can be used to compare items when evaluating the inventory of a vendor.
On your PC, you can see the level of the item by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the item's full description, including ilvl. It can also be found by hovering an item with the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat.
There are many theories about how the item level is determined. One theory is that the level is a number that comes from a formula that calculates the value of an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration the fact that different perks have different values and that gems in sockets add to the overall value of the item. This process can result in a calculated value for the item's level, which is typically close to Blizzard's real level of the item.
However, this is not the only factor that can affect an item's ilvl as the size of the area the item dropped in can change the value of its stats, such as by adding an amount to its crit rating or haste rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher the ilvl than items from lower level instances.
Item Stats
The stats of an item are a major element in what makes or breaks an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the best." The stats of a base weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modifications, which are themselves boosted by the player's level.
The upgrades to an item can increase its stats. The rarity of an item determines the upgrade cost. For instance, a gray or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas items with rare tiers can be upgraded many times at higher prices.
Affixes are a different method to change an item's stats. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes are used to give items extra damage, special capabilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs) or to distinguish them by naming them.
Currently, all affixes can be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by the arrows that circle. It will cost a set amount in gold and items. These can be used as upgrade gauges, similar to other rerolling methods.
Players can upgrade an item to specific stats, or reroll affixes. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However every item will include at least one stat within that range unless they are an exclusive item, or the item is a God Roll from a raid boss.
Another thing that could change is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to reroll the attachments, or pick which stats to enhance. But as with base equipment, this would have to be carried out on a per-item basis, and the item compare interface will not show all the stats that could be that were gained or lost at the same time.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player can increase the likelihood of locating items, the properties that are created by loot and the intensity of these properties. It does not, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with the chance to upgrade equipment earlier in the game. This is particularly useful in the early game, because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith’s overall chance of upgrading that increase with each level of the
item upgrader. These can also be enhanced by using anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant a further +40 Luck or to boost the Luck of an item, up to 140.
Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow, can also be equipped to increase the damage of any ability that is able to deal damage by five percent. These items can be bought in the shop or constructed using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items can be costly and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to increase their success rate or prevent them from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.
When you upgrade an item the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading that item and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limits to the extent to which success rates can be increased and the chance of an upgrade failing can't be greater than 100%..
The success of an upgrade is also affected by the luck of the item. Every item has an average success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases that chance by an additional 5%.
Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the inventory items which means that enchantment glints and other effects could be masked by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the
item upgrader mod upgrader (
