The Band Toto Asia
Toto was expanding its production facilities in the overseas market and operating in France, Germany, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. Toto considered North America as a growth market for Washlet bidets and toilets, in contrast to its "base" markets of Japan and China.
Dhaniram Toto was recording Toto words to ensure that the next generation would be able to read the words. However, many of the words were being replaced by foreign ones, such as dui, which is Bengali for verandah.
Origins
The early history of Toto which began in 1917, was a reflection of Japan's economic expansion. In the beginning of its existence, the company made goods to meet demand for modern and contemporary urban housing. To achieve this, it employed the first tunnel kiln in the nation that produced ceramics in a continuous flow. It also pioneered the use of automation to control production, which allows for more efficiency and consistency.
In the latter half of the 1980s, the company began expanding outwards to profit from sales and new markets. The company founded the Cera Trading Company to import and distribute other products of other manufacturers to complement its own range of sanitary earthenwares and plumbing fittings. This strategy increased sales and increased the firm's market share.
By the 1990s, Toto had shifted its focus on research and development for household appliances that use water. It also redesigned its distribution system to better serve customers and increase profit. The company embraced a just-in time approach to supply chain management and used the same method for its sales process. This resulted in a greater level customer satisfaction.
Toto continued to develop toilet technology. Its latest toilet, for example, has a strong tornado flush that is more environmentally green than traditional toilets. The company also makes use of recycled water in its production process and has a green procurement policy. In addition to toilets, Toto manufactures bathtubs and faucets, as well as hand dryers that are more energy efficient than typical models.
The first Toto museum opened in the year 2015. It hosts exhibits on Toto’s seminal products as well as their evolution, group companies (all of which are ceramics), the history of plumbing and even bath units. In an additional gallery, you can see Toto products that are sold throughout. The museum also has a bathroom that includes the WASHLET toilet, as well as other toilet-related innovations.
Before forming Toto members of the group performed sessions with various musicians. Keyboardist David Paich, drummer Jeff Porcaro,

Discography
You would expect a group with a name like Asia to be a prog rock group however, it's actually a fairly straight forward rock outfit. The group was formed as four-piece, and released two albums: 1979's self-titled debut and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. However, even though the group have a wide range of musical backgrounds, their biggest success came in 1982 with Toto IV.
The album was a major blockbuster, but it was not without its own set of issues. The record companies put the band under pressure to release a hit single or they would drop the album. Toto was able to do this through the aid of the hit song "Africa."

The album starts out hard with songs such as Running Out of Time or Unknown Soldier that show the band's ability to write great AOR tunes that slowly creep into your head. The album also has some more mellow, jazzy tracks like The Little Things and Chinatown. And the album ends with Great Expectations, a song which combines folk and distorted AOR and should sound completely wrong, but actually is incredibly effective.
After Toto IV the band's fortunes started to plummet. David Hungate left the band to pursue a solo career. The band had several drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball left the band after drug charges. The band remained with Michael Porcaro, Steve Lukather and Michael Porcaro.
Toto released Isolation despite the turbulence. It wasn't as well-liked as IV. The band managed to release a chart-topping album, Kingdom of Desire, in 1992. The album marked the end of the original Toto lineup and was also the first to feature the new singer, Simon Phillips.

Line-up
Turn Back, the band's third studio album is an ode to the classic sextet format and it was a more consistent, more powerful effort that had a more grittier edge. The more edgier sound of Turn Back reflected the development of the group. Bobby Kimball's growing ability to play was evident in the vocal delivery of Joseph Williams, who had grown more confident and mature. Keyboardist David Paich's work also was more precise, sharper and less cloned on previous efforts.
After touring to promote the album, the band recorded a live performance in Amsterdam that was released as a two-CD set entitled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. The group released a new studio album just a few months after and then embarked on a tour around the world to promote the album. In this time, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes replaced Paich and bassist David Hungate quit the group to spend time with his family.
In 1998, Paich and Lukather started searching through old tapes and demos for a new album featuring songs that had never been recorded before. It was completed in 2001 as a duo album titled Then & Now. It was the first album by the band not to feature a single song with the word "A" in its title and it included one previously not released track, "Kari-Anne".
