The prams that parents choose to use reveal a lot about their parenting style. Often a choice of pram is not only an investment, but also an indicator of status.

What is a single buggy?

A single buggy is a light four-wheeled carriage, which is usually driven by a single horse. It is commonly used by Amish people, and is also known as a"sleigh. Families typically opt for a single buggy since it allows them to move around with ease.

Since 1998, Phil&teds has always been at the forefront of innovation. Our stroller and double kit(tm) bundles provide a range of options that can be used in every family situation.

Go(tm) is an effortless & fuss-free, cheap single pushchair buggy that can grow with your family. sport(tm) will future proof your pocket by acting as a fantastic single buggy from the beginning of the day; and voyager(tm) can adapt to take two (or even three!) - all done within the footprint of a single buggy!

Types of single buggies

A lightweight buggy can be a great choice for parents who travel frequently or plan to use public transport with their child, or take a trip. They typically weigh less than 6kg and fold compactly and can be carried in the overhead compartments of flights. Buggies that weigh less than 6kg are great for city travel as they're generally easy to manoeuvre. Many come with a sunshade and raincover, which are worth investing in to keep your baby happy at any time!

A jogger buggy is equipped with large BMX wheels and is designed to exercise. It also has an excellent suspension to take the bounces and bumps of off-road usage. It isn't easy to steer a jogger buggie as the front wheels could rotate. Locking the wheel is crucial when crossing roads or putting on kerbs.

A few buggies are reverse-able. This allows the seat to be positioned either way or backwards (also known as parent-facing). This is perfect for babies who are fussy and prefer to be in a position to be able to see their parents. Some models are only forward-facing, which means they're better for older babies who don't like to be distracted.

There are also tandem buggies that can accommodate two children who are the same age. This can be useful when you have twins or babies born close together however, they can be difficult navigate, particularly in small spaces. Some tandem buggies feature an adjustable mechanism inside each seat, meaning that your toddler can lie flat while you push them.

The ideal single-buggy will depend on the size of your family, budget and your lifestyle. If you have a baby look into a buggy that is lightweight with a lie-flat seat which can be used from birth. If you are looking to secure your wallet, choose one buggy that can be converted to a double buggy when the time comes. Phil&teds created the first inline buggy and now have a great selection of double kit and stroller bundles that can aid you in this.

Buying a single buggy

A new buggy is an expensive purchase. Most pushchair packages with newborn bassinets can cost upwards PS700. This is a significant amount for parents on a an extremely tight budget.

The reality is that, except for a city with public transport at your fingertips or have a huge car garage and spend every weekend in muddy parks, the majority of families purchase two buggies. A sturdy, robust buggy that can hold loads and handle rough terrain, and possibly grow with the family and a lightweight travel buggy to take on holidays and small spaces, such as on public transport or busy streets.

Our suggestion is to purchase a single that you love and, in the event that your child gets older and you require an additional double, you can simply sell it and then re-purchase the buggy you want. You will not be stuck with a gadget you don't need.

Double buggy: Buying one

When buying a double buggy you have a lot to think about, from the amount it will cost to what type of recline positions the seats can offer. You should also consider whether you require a large shopping basket as well as what kind of suspension that the buggy is equipped with. It is also worth thinking about what features you want the buggy to have such as sunshades, rain covers and snack trays.

There are many double buggies on the market. The right one is dependent on the person who will use it, your lifestyle and your budget. If you're expecting twins, or have a toddler and a newborn, you may want a stroller that can grow with your family. UPPAbaby Vista V2 is an excellent example of this, offering 30 different seating configurations for all different ages. This lets you use it as a single fold pushchair buggy from birth and then convert it into a side-by-side model for when your children get older. It can also be used with a third child if the Ride-Along Piggyback Board is added to make it a versatile choice.

Mountain Buggy Duet V3.2 is another great option. This is one of the slimmest side-by-side double buggies available, with a footprint that's almost as narrow as a single buggie. It features two seats that face the world and can recline independently. They can also be turned into a flat position. It can be adapted to fit two carrycots, cocoons or two car seats for babies.

It is easy to fold and can be done by hand, thanks to the twist mechanism on the handle. It's light and compact, but not as small as the Cybex Gazelle S. It has excellent suspension and a footbrake that works smoothly, making it easier to push it over rough surfaces. The seats are padded and the harness straps are thick and comfortable for your children to sit in.image
