WoW Upgrades - The
item upgrading Upgrader
Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of the item by +3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.
Upgraded gear generally sees more value in trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variation (like the eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect version.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to the enchantments.
You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every few weeks to keep your equipment up to date.
Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item, however they'll always be cheaper than buying new equipment. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are items that can be used for tools, armor, weapon, and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will display the preview of an item's next level of upgrade, in the event that there are enough materials.
The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item and the current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than bracers or gloves, for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.
Many locations offer
item upgrading upgraders in addition to the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.
Icewind Dale does not have an
item level upgrade (
click the next page) upgrader at start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only available through a variety means. This is both a benefit as well as an issue.
In Season 3, several new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once an upgrade has been completed to a certain
item level upgrade level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This is true even if those items are from an entirely different set of gear.
The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is reduced as well, but is only available when certain milestones have been reached.
Crests
When upgrading equipment in WoW players have a few choices. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.
The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be spent on equipment that is of a particular rank, and each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade requires up to 20 crests, based on the type of gear that is being upgraded.
Players can earn crests by working through content at the appropriate level. This could be done by engaging in outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in all difficulties to get lower-tier gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with a heroic difficulty to obtain endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader for the item such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and routes.
Using these new currencies isn't too complicated however, the system introduces some changes to the overall upgrade process. Once a piece of gear has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest ilvl possible for all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.
Another significant change is that crests have one usage therefore it's essential to make use of them in a responsible manner. For instance it's
Best item upgrader to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the best equipment available and keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning to create. This is particularly true for items such as trinkets and rings that fill multiple slots. The account-wide discount will only be applicable if all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
