This is an excellent plus point for those who desire a hassle-free hands-free automation. However, it may frustrate those who love to alter settings and choose their own brew strength and size. The machine can serve espresso double espresso, gran lungo, mug and alto drinks with a fine layer of crema.
The X7.1 isn't just an absolute standout in its brewing technology, but it also has other features. For instance, it is one of the few coffee machines that we have tested that offers an adjustable drip tray that can be adjusted to height to adjust the dimensions and shape of the coffee mug. It also comes with a stainless-steel milk jug to make lattes and cappuccinos. The X7.1 also includes an energy-saving sleep mode and a detachable pod holder to simplify cleaning.
Compatible with All Keurig K-Cups, Nespresso capsules and Bruvi B-Pods. These pods differ from K-Cups or other popular pods because they contain ground coffee, instead of a teabag, and have more caffeine than regular espresso. Two members of Real Homes' team have used it in their kitchens, and they both adore it. It's a sleek stainless-steel machine that looks elegant and is very simple to use. Simply place the pod, select whether you'd like a lungo or a short express, and press the button. The light flashes to indicate whether the coffee is brewing or is ready. There's no steam wand or milk carafe, however you can add toppings to your coffee with hot or cold milk as you'd like.
This machine is designed to work with Grind's own reusable, recyclable and compostable pods. This means that you're not only decreasing the amount of coffee you waste (which could take hundreds of years to degrade) but the pods themselves don't contain plastic and are completely organic. They cost about 50p each and you can dump them into your garden compost or food waste bin once they are empty.
The Grind One costs PS275 and you can purchase it with the addition of a milk frother for an extra PS325. It's more expensive than many of Nespresso-branded pod machines but it's a stylish and well-designed versatile machine. It's also the smallest the bunch so it won't take up enough countertop space, and it comes with a raised drip tray that latches onto a series of notches alongside the waste bin for height adjustment.
4. Grind 2
This pod machine is ideal for those who enjoy an espresso-like coffee in a snap. It can brew a short or long shot, and has three different settings for temperature and extraction. Our coffee enthusiast was enthralled by its ability to make an excellent espresso. Its crema (which should be a warm chestnut color that lasts until the last sip) and temperature were perfect. Its sleek style and durable attractive materials also made it stand out from the rest.
Our coffee lover also tried the Grind One to see if it was simple to use. The robust switch is comfortable to use and allows you to programme your preferred length or short shot, and a crisp display. You can choose to automatically dispense hot water alongside your coffee that helps the ground to settle and enhances your drink's flavour. This pod coffee maker also comes with a useful milk frother making it a fantastic all-rounder.
These machines also take out the messy elements of espresso-making including grinding or dosing and tamping of the beans. This reduces the number of items that need to be cleaned up and disposed of, making them a better option for those with limited kitchen space. If you want to expand your options you can use a separate milk frother in order to make lattes and cappuccinos. You can also go with a manual press such as the Aeropress which has a lower carbon footprint and a richer flavor than machines. However, it requires more effort from you and we wouldn't recommend it for everyone.
5. Lavazza Idola
This model isn't as expensive as the Lavazza Voicy pod machine, but it's ideal for those who love espresso or ristretto or caffe longo. It's also one of the most silent machines, which means you can sip your morning coffee while your children are still asleep.
You can program the size of your cup according to your preferences and there's also an option for the temperature to increase to push your brew to a higher temperature at the press of an button. You can also keep track on maintenance by getting alerts when the capsule bin is empty or the water tank needs to be filled up.
The machine is not able to frost milk, but it can be used to make cappuccinos and flat whites with a separate container. A lot of buyers have left favorable reviews on Amazon and John Lewis.
