About Toto
The group Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also well-known studio musicians with Boz Scaggs at the time) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. Taking their name from the Latin word meaning "all inclusive," the group was intent on exploring all styles of music.
The third album by Toto, Turn Back, was not a success in 1981. However they made amends with their fourth album, Isolation, which contained two songs that were hits with the title track and Roseanna. The album and their tour established them as a brand around the world.
After a hiatus of a few years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in the year 1986. It is a departure from the ballads that were featured on previous albums and includes some heavy rock. This was their first platinum album in North America.
During the recording process of the fifth album, the group loses its manager and faces financial difficulties. They decide to change their name and create a new album with the new producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, replaces Fergie Frederiksen as the lead vocalist. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman and provides the band with a much-needed boost.
The band releases Mindfields in 1999, and then embarks on a major tour across the globe. After several weeks in Europe the band travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and releases their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993. It also features a cover of Weezer's hit song Hash Pipe as a response to the band's coverage of Africa on their recent tour. Toto's touring band is rounded out by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

In 2008, a string of lineup changes and a series of albums that were disappointing led Toto to call it quits for a couple of years. However, the group resumed touring in 2012 with the release of their album, 40 Trips Around the Sun.
The album was a return to form for the band and the tour was accompanied by sold-out shows in North America and Europe. Toto's reunion was helped by the addition of guitarist Steve Lukather and bassist Shem von Schroeck, who had both returned to the band.
