In this video, Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is situated near the transmission's edge over the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU via an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
The grey wire is situated on the outside of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.
The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies in order to activate the spark and injectors.
If this sensor fails, the ECU will throw the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync, possibly indicating the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper timing chain. However, the error code won't appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).
It's a bit tricky to test because there are different connector pins, and each one has different functions. The best way to do it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is functional, it should read about 1000 ohms. Check for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this component.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll, I experienced a big cut in power like the engine is out of gas or injectors aren't firing at all. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, three were drenched with gazoline the 4th one was dry. I put tissue over each hole in the injector and when I start the engine without sparks, the ones with gazoline jump right out. The fourth one remains closed. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ i get zero Ohm. I think the issue is elsewhere.
I also tried to reset PID without success. The
audi car keys replacement will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it is running fine with the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue persists at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even if it is not plugged in, shows temperatures of -49c. Also i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.
I'm not sure what to do, i feel i have pretty much completely ruled out all other possibilities. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. Please let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find an extra in a wrecking shop or parts store. It is simple to test them - put your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's end). They should be infinite Ohms.
4. ECU
Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that must be aware of the speed and position of the crankshaft to make decisions about timing of the fuel injector, for example. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If you have a problem with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could lead to the engine shutting down.
A failing G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate gearbox speed counter, a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, and/or a misfire while in gear. It is likely that the sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you experience any of these symptoms. The good news is they are quite affordable and easy to find, especially in the case of an Bosch model, like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this unit is also a great option.
5. Tachometer
A failing engine speed sensor could be the reason behind numerous problems in your vehicle. It is a crucial part of the
audi a1 key replacement's transmission as it sends information to the ECU about how fast or slow the vehicle's crankshaft is rotating. When this sensor fails, it will disrupt the performance of the transmission, as well as the rest of the car's components.
The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear and transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 via a grey wire. The ECU utilizes this signal to regulate the amount of fuel and boost, as well as timig. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can test the sensor for failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection to pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see around 1000 ohms of resistance between those points. This is a typical component across the
