Line-up
The album's third, Turn Back, marked a return to the classic sextet format of the previous albums. It was a stronger, more constant effort with a harder edge than Hydra. The more edgier sound of Turn Back reflected the maturation in the group. Bobby Kimball's growing virtuosity was reflected by the vocal delivery of Joseph Williams, who had become more confident and mature. David Paich's keyboard skills were also more sophisticated, sharper, and less derivative on previous recordings.
After touring to promote the album, the group recorded a live performance in Amsterdam that was released as a two-CD set entitled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records.
