Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?
A light double pushchair makes it easy to get around, particularly for families with children of different ages. They are easy to fold, steer and carry up and down steps.
This City Mini GT2 features side-by-side seating with plenty of legroom. It also features adjustable reclining, UPF 50+ canopy and peekaboo windows. It also has frames that can be expanded in the width to accommodate the second car seat or an additional passenger.
Side-by-Side
Most of the lightweight double pushchairs we tested were side-by-side models. These are the
best twin stroller for children who can stand up without assistance, as they aren't as likely to have car seat compatibility. The Thule Urban Glide 2 Double, and Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double, are both excellent options. They have recline that can be adjusted for both seats, a huge canopy, and padded 5-point safety harnesses. They are also simple to move around despite their bigger footprint. They are great for parents who worry about getting through doors.
The Cybex Duet is a little different due to its unique frame that extends its width to create a second seat, making it smaller than most other side-by-side pushchairs on the market. It can fit through doors that are standard and is easy to maneuver on public transportation. It also doubles as a jogger which is great when you are planning to use it in conjunction with an infant car seat or carrier.
The UPPAbaby Vista v2 double is another excellent lightweight side-by-side double. It offers an even greater degree of customization due to the modular frame. Its clever design lets you to transform it into a single or double buggy by adding two carrycots or car seats for children. It can even accommodate twins. It is a practical option for families growing. The UPPAbaby umbrella stroller is one of the lightest, sexiest and most stylish available.
If you prefer a more compact and lightweight double, you can try the egg2 which folds to the size of a compact suitcase. It can be used as a single or double by adding two baby car seats or carrycots. Our home testers were amazed by how easy it was to move around, even with a full load of children.
Although they're lightweight double pushchairs that sit side-by-side aren't foolproof. If your children are of the same age and stage, they could be fighting over who gets to sit in which spot. And if they're at different heights, a
tandem double buggy style might be better for them, as it lets them face each other.
Tandem
While side-byside models are better suitable for siblings of similar age, tandem lightweight double strollers have their own charms. Some can accommodate an extra car seat, while some have reversible seats. Others even have an extra carrycot or a convertible seat in the middle. They are more spacious, and easier to get into and out of. However the baskets they use tend to be smaller than those found on single buggies. Many also feature more generously big canopies with windows that peek out as well as a cup holder for the parent and padded leg cushions for children.
The iCandy Peach tandem is another good example of a lightweight tandem that provides an excellent value. Its fabric feels a bit less premium than some of our other top-rated doubles, but it looks and feels great and is easy to use. One of the most impressive aspects about it is the one-handed fold. Although it requires practice, Kirstie in our Lab has said it's "genius". The carrycot cannot be folded while it is attached. However, the mechanism to attach and remove the carrycot is quick and easy.
Tandem strollers are light and lightweight. They typically have tighter turning capabilities than side-byside models. However, they may be more difficult to navigate on uneven surfaces and curbs. They are also slow to speed up and are heavier to move, which can put stress on your back.
A convertible double buggy is a different option. It's initially an individual but you can also add adapters to make it double. It can also have a second seat, carrycot, or both in the front. Children can share a seat. Some may have the option of adding a buggyboard, which assists an older child to keep up with a younger brother or sister.
The Uppababy Vista V2 is a excellent example of a convertible, since it can be converted into a twin pram by the purchase of additional cocoons (PS59 each) that provide a flat area for infants. They can be placed in a row or joined to face each other and you can use them with the infant car seat that is included with the pushchair (as long as you choose a compatible one). As they're made with quality materials, these buggies that are dual-use can be used for a long time without showing much wear, which means they have a high potential for resale.
Single-to-Double
Designed for outdoor-loving families who are looking to upgrade from a single stroller, this lightweight double buggy can be converted into a jogger thanks an impressive kit that comes with air-filled tyres and all-wheel suspension. It can also withstand rough terrain well and is a tandem triple is suitable for twins or children of different age groups. It's also a good choice for parents looking for a stylish design that's as elegant as a single and is available in a range of fabric colours.
We loved the way this iCandy model folds up with a one-handed mechanism that's extremely easy to master. It's also heavier than other single-to-double pushchairs in this review, home tester Karolina said that it still is very maneuverable, even with two toddlers and a carrycot inside.
The seat can be used with the parent facing and you can purchase additional accessories for this stroller like the Roma Gemini carrycots (PS100 each) that are perfect for newborns. Our panel of testers found that the seats to be comfortable for toddlers, with good headrests and lumbar support. There are many options to recline the seats, with the front seat can be adjusted to different positions, and the back seat having an option to recline.
This type of buggy has the biggest disadvantage of being wider than side-byside doubles. This makes it difficult to maneuver through doorways and it isn't easy to maneuver up and down kerbs. The suspension and wheels of these models tend to be able to deal with paved surfaces. They're also lighter than many side-bysides which means you can get a lot of storage. It's important to remember that these types of strollers aren't as good at navigating narrow aisles in supermarkets, and may struggle to cope with a lot of shopping. Even though it's easier to turn the stroller on a small curved path, it can be a hassle. Some are easier to turn than others models, like the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double or Baby Trend
sit n stand double stroller N' Stand Double.
Convertible
Convertible double pushchairs are fantastic because they can be adapted to the changing needs of families. They are typically single buggies, and include adapters that permit you to include a second child's seat or a carrycot (in some instances) a car-seat to the frame. Some of them can be converted back to a single as your child grows older and begins to walk more or wants to ride on a buggy board.
This stylish tri-fold
double buggy side by side stroller can be described as one of the lightest on our list. It can hold up to 40 lbs per child and comes with an integrated storage basket between the seats. The large canopy with a peekaboo window, multi-position reclining seats and front and back suspensions for smoother riding on rough terrain were praised by the home testers. It also has a convenient cup holder for the parent and a large, easy-to-access basket. They also noted that the backs have small pockets, that are just sufficient to hold phones and a set of keys.
