Egress/Easy Clean Hinge
These are a great choice for replacing or upgrading your fire escape window since they open up to a full 90 degree angle. They can be closed in an easy-cleaning position which allows you to get access to the outside of windows without the need to climb ladders or lean at dangerous angles.

By pressing a small button the window sash will be moved to the side and then into the position that is easy to clean. After closing, the window sash will return to its original position.
They are available in both 13mm and 17mm stack heights. Use our Egress Selection Guide to help you choose the right product for your window.
These hinges are designed to work with standard side-hung frames, either uPVC or aluminium. The friction screw is used to adjust the resistance. This makes it easier to open the window and reduces the risk of an accidental closure during high winds. They have been cycle tested to more than 30000 cycles and are in compliance with BBA/Secured by Design and British Standards approved BS EN 13126-6:2008.
The Nico Egress Easy Clean friction hinge is easy to use and doesn't have any buttons or catch. It is a simple and safe solution for emergency exit and cleaning. First, open the window to the egress (full opening) position and then press the hinge retaining clip on the inner side of the bottom corner. This will open both the bottom and top catches and allow you to slide the sash to the easy-cleaning position. Once in the easy-clean position close the window to reset the hinges back to their egress position.
Fire-Escape Hinge
Fire Escape Hinges (also known as "Easy Clean") are used to replace windows with side openings to protect against fire. They allow for an opening larger in the event of fire. The building regulations state that this kind of hinge has to be set in any habitable space with a window.
They feature a unique friction stay that allows the window to be opened to an angle of 90 degrees. It also allows the sash opening to slide across when open to allow easy cleaning of the outside of the glass without having to use ladders. The hinges have no fiddly catch or buttons and are operated by an easy, secure lever that is accessible from the inside of the home.
The hinges are made in the UK by Cotswold and come with a child safety limiter for day-to-day use that can be overridden with a hidden button providing you with peace of mind that your children will not accidentally open the window too far. They are available in 13mm and 17mm stack heights.
To purchase these hinges, measure the length of your current side-hung window hinge which fixes to the frame (see the guidelines for measuring your upvc window hinges). Then, select the appropriate size hinge from the choices below.
It is important to note that this measurement is taken at the part of the hinge that connects to the frame and not the sash. The actual hinge length can be longer or shorter dependent on how the old windows were manufactured. When deciding the size of the hinge, most upvc frames will fit a stack height of 13mm however if your previous window frame measures 17mm, you should select this option. Alternatively you can fit the 4mm packer to make up for the difference. All the hinges are supplied with two hands (1 left and one right). Screws aren't included with the hinges. If needed, they can be purchased separately. We recommend using our Upvc

Restricted Hinge
Standard hinges can make it difficult to open a window completely. These child safety hinges are a solution to this problem and provide a solution for situations where ventilation is required but access for cleaning or escape in the case of fire is not feasible. They restrict the amount of opening the sash, and allow for the bypass of this restriction by pressing the button. They are suitable for both side and top-hung windows and are available in 17mm and 13mm stack heights.
The Nico Restricted Egress Friction Hinges blend the features of both a standard restrictor, and a fire escape pivot to offer a simple and efficient method of complying with building regulations. It is suitable for side-hung and top opening uPVC windows and comes in 17mm and 13mm stack heights. It is supplied in a pair, where one hinge is the restricted egress and the second is free, allowing one to be placed to the bottom of the sash while the other hinge is installed to the top.
These uPVC restrictive hinges have been tested to BS6375 part 2. They are intended for use on a window that isn't able to be fully opened, such as a small children's bedroom. The mechanism restricts the amount the sash can open up to 100mm for safety and re-engages once the window is closed.
As with the other types of uPVC friction hinges that are available, these hinges can be used on all types of windows and are ideal for those hard to reach windows above the ground, three-storey flats or those that would normally require a ladder for access to them. They can be paired with our range of security features like hinge guards, protection plates for hinges or dog bolts to offer PAS 24 performance.
When replacing a window hinge it is important to measure the length of the existing hinge so that you can order replacements that match in size. This can be accomplished by looking at the image gallery of the hinge and then deciding where you would like it to be. Top-hung
double glazed hinges are limited on both sides and the side hung hinges can only be used to one side.
Standard Hinge
Standard hinges use metal-to-metal connections and do not require any additional parts to help reduce friction. It's available in a variety of finishes, and is fire rated. For a quick way to determine the radius of your hinge, lay it flat and line up with a quarter and dime in two corners. If the quarter is more snug then the corner should be rounded to 5/8 inches.
Selecting the right hinge can determine the success or failure of your
bi-fold door hinges's appearance. It's crucial to match the style and finish of your door to the hinges to create a seamless appearance that is both functional and visually appealing.
