Saab Key Programming
saab 93 key cars made since 1994 come with an immobilizer system that is based on codes for keys. In order to add a second key, it requires the purchase of a new transponder as well as special programming. This is usually done by the dealer using a Tech2 diagnostic tool.
It can be costly. This is why it is important to always keep a spare key in your possession.
Transponder key
The transponder is a key equipped with an electronic chip. This chip sends a signal when the key is put into the ignition. The car then examines the signal to see if it matches that of the key. If both signals match, the car will unlock itself and start. This is a great method to guard your car against theft.
Transponder keys are an increasingly popular feature in vehicles, but you should be aware that they're not as secure as traditional keys made of metal. While the metal component of a traditional key could be cut and copied, a transponder is protected by an electronic chip. The chip is equipped with an individual code that is embedded into the car's computer to identify it.
When a
Saab key fob is used the car recognizes it and allows it to turn on. The car will only recognize the key fob if the device has a chip that is unmodified and has been programmed to match. The car won't start when the key isn't programmed to match.
It's crucial to ensure that you have an extra key for your Saab. This is particularly true for those who live in a rural area with numerous car thieves. You can obtain a replacement key for your Saab by visiting the dealership, without having to pay their high costs. You can have the replacement key on the spot for less than half what you would pay at the dealership.
Wired key
Saab cars are usually supplied with two keys. If you only own one, it is recommended to get an additional key as fast as you can. This is because, if it's lost the car will require a new CIM and the locking cylinders replaced. This can be expensive particularly for used cars.
The next step is to connect the wires of the column and row to the microcontroller. This is the toughest part of the project and it will require a lot of soldering. It's not a standard way to go about it, however, you should determine
how to program saab 9-3 key fob to connect and solder each column and row. For this keyboard, there are 5 rows and 17 columns. This means there will be 22 microcontroller wires and pins to connect.
Once the rows and columns are soldered, it's the time to connect them to the key switches. Solder a diode to each key switch pin. This will shield the pins from current, and prevent them from being shorted. A diode permits current to only flow in only one direction. It features a visual indicator with a black band that shows which way current will flow.
Sanabria says that some of the tools available in auto parts stores, such as the Autel MaxiIM IMM608PRO and IM508 will assist customers shopping or DIY users to program replacement keys and restore immobilizer information. The tools plug into the OBD port and automatically guide the customer through the process, making it easier than replacing the computer inside the vehicle.
Jumpstarting the battery
Most people keep a set of jumper cables in their trunks for emergency situations however, jumping a battery in newer cars might not be the best idea. These cars are equipped with a variety of digital and computers that communicate with one another. A surge in voltage when the battery is connected to another one could damage these components, rendering your vehicle unable to drive.
Start the vehicle you are using and allow it to run for approximately two minutes before connecting the cables to the one that is disabled. Attach the red clip to the positive terminal of the battery that is good (it will have "POS" or "+" on it). Attach the other end of the black cable to an unpainted, clean metal surface under the disabled car's hood. The engine block would be a good choice. The black cable should not be connected to the negative terminal of the dead battery. This could create a spark, which would ignite the gasoline in the engine compartment.
After the cables have been connected, begin the car and let it run about five minutes. Then, disconnect the cables in reverse. The battery in your
saab key battery 9-3 will be recharged as you drive. It will take some time for it to fall back. It is a good idea to buy a spare key fob as soon as you can, since replacing the only functioning one requires the installation of a new computer module and special programming to convince it that your lost keys aren't in the process of trying to steal the car.
Replacement case
Saab owners often only have one car key, and if it is lost, they'll be charged. It's expensive to buy a key and requires replacing the CIM or TWICE for older models. It's recommended to have a backup key in the event of theft or any other catastrophe and the most effective way is to purchase an additional key as soon as you can. Even it's "new", it will not work.
Most locksmiths cannot help you when you only have one working key, and the dealer will charge high fees to replace the computer in your vehicle to create a replacement. However, we can reset and re-program your computer's EEPROM in order to prepare it to accept a new key without replacing the entire system. This could save you a lot of money. It's less expensive instead of waiting until you lose your only key.
