Choosing a Double
Pushchair TwinIf you have twins you need a double pushchair to get them from A to B. Our range of twin prams includes twin buggies that can be set up in a variety of ways to meet your requirements.
Look for a pushchair that folds with one step and is easy to lift into your car. You may also prefer a lightweight design, especially when you're on busy high streets.
Side-by-Side
This is the most commonly used double pushchair. It can usually seat two children side by side. They are usually larger than single pushchairs. This makes them less able to maneuver on the footpaths. It is also difficult to navigate between kerbs when the car seat is in place. However the extra width can mean that they're often a lot easier to navigate through doorways and are distributed more evenly making them less burdensome on your back.
They can be used as twin prams from birth, and many models will take both a carrycot or two car seats. Some can even be converted to one mode by adding a basket alongside (like the Cybex Venus).
The Bugaboo Donkey 5 is a excellent illustration of this. In Twin Mode, you can put the rear seat next to the carrycot. This allows you to create an enclosed twin room and is perfect for babies. This
pram pushchair comes with some amazing accessories, such as the newborn cocoons, which can be put on either facing forwards or in any direction (for twin-facing prams). It's not as lightweight like other options, but it's really cleverly designed.
Lightweight
Cybex is known for its unique pushchairs, and the single-to-double isn't an exception. Its innovative frame expands widthways to take an additional seat, and you can use it as a twin from birth, thanks to the addition of two infant cocoons (PS59 each) that create enclosed lie-flat spaces for infants. The large basket of shopping behind the seat lets it be used in mono mode for a single child. It also has front and rear suspension to tackle bumps and uneven surfaces a little more easily. Our reviewers picked this car as their top choice.
Available in a range of elegant colors.
Tandem
If you're planning to have twins, you'll need a tandem pushchair. This will allow both children to sit together and
pushchair Twin interact with each one another. These are great for things like visiting the zoo, as the children will be able to gaze at all the animals together. They are also ideal for parents who wish to watch their toddler and baby at the same time.
Some tandem pushchairs are incredibly flexible, as they can be converted back to single mode. This is particularly useful when you're planning to have more than two children (or just your eldest doesn't need a buggy anymore). This will help you avoid having to store an empty buggy which can be costly.
The Cybex Venus, for example can be used in double or mono mode. Its frame can expand to accommodate an additional seat. This isn't the lightest of pushchairs, but it offers a large shopping basket that is placed behind the front seat in double mode (and behind the seat in mono mode). The seats can be positioned so that they face each the other or higher to observe what each is doing.
Other double tandem pushchairs like the Joolz Geo 3 can seat one on top of the other or side-byside. They have a sleek, compact frame that makes it easier to navigate through doorways and aisles of supermarkets, and some models can also be used as a jogging stroller on rough terrain, thanks to a four-wheel suspension and large rear wheels.
A tandem pushchair could also be used to transport two carrycots, or a car and buggy seat. You can save money by establishing an overall
travel strollers system from the beginning and avoiding separate purchases. It's worth remembering that tandems can be heavier and longer than single pushchairs, and may feel less stable when bumping up kerbs or going over uneven surfaces. These pushchairs also need to be dismantled in order to fit into cars.
