Choosing a Double Pram and Pushchair
A double pram can simplify the lives of families, especially in busy shopping centers or on busy streets. Choose a model that has ample storage space for nappies snacks, nappies, and other necessities.
Some parents who are first-time parents choose an infant pushchair that can be used as a single pram once baby is born. It can be transformed into a twin-mode once he or she is old enough. Joolz offers a range of these options.
Tandem
The announcement that you're expecting to have a baby is among the most exciting moments in your life. However, once the excitement fades and the reality sets in, you may be faced with a multitude of choices regarding how to prepare your family for the arrival of your new one or ones. One of the most important things to consider is choosing the
best twin buggy pram or pushchair.
Tandem prams, also referred as "in-line" double prams, are a classic design that has two bassinets or chairs placed side by side. The front seat, which is typically cushioned, reclines flat and is suitable for newborns. The second seat is more upright and designed to accommodate toddlers as young as 3 years. Certain models let you decide if your children will look at each other or face each other. Many tandems can be made into one pushchair when your oldest child is no longer in need of the second seat.
In terms of cost the tandem is cheaper than a
twin stroller side by side pushchair and can be a great choice for parents looking to save money without compromising on safety or functionality. However, the drawback of a tandem is that it may feel long and heavy to steer, especially when you're bumping up or down kerbs. Additionally, it is generally less stable than a twin pram, especially if the child who is older is sitting in the front. A tandem can be difficult to fit onto public transport and can be difficult to navigate on narrow roads.
The iCandy Peach is a popular model that is a good choice for a single parent who wants something streamlined, but the tandem mode can make it feel quite heavy and long when pushing. It features a clever frame that can be expanded to accommodate the second seat, and can be used with a variety of combinations of carrycots, buggy seats and car seats (two at once or separately). The iCandy Wave tandem is another lightweight option that's easy-to-use and compatible with a range of car seats and carrycots.
Side by side
When it comes time to choose a double pram or pushchair there's a lot to think about. There are a variety of configuration options available, whether you're buying for twins or close-in-age siblings. Tandem prams, also referred to as side-by-side prams, are a popular options because they can be set up so that the infant can sit in the bassinet at the top while the older child or toddler is sitting in the second chair.
Some models even have reversible seats, which means you can adapt the configuration to your family's requirements throughout the toddler and baby years. This allows you to see your children at
all terrain double buggy times, and allows them to connect with them as they walk.
Tandem prams can be jogging buggies or all-terrain buggies. They are great for trips outdoors, such as to the park. They're also a good choice if you need to brave narrow supermarket isles or checkouts because they are generally more compact than single-seaters.
The Redsbaby JIVE3 Pram, for example, can be used as a tandem pram right from birth in the dual mode, with the addition of the rumble seat (PS249). You can then switch to the single mode once your child is old enough to leave the rumble seat, or use the adaptors for car capsules (PS53) to turn it into a travel system from newborn to toddler.
Another option is the Side by Side Pram from Babybee. This double side-byside pram comes in a variety of colours and is designed with a modern style. It is designed to be used from birth, you can also add the LUNA newborn cocoon (PS262) or the LUNA infant seats (PS53 each) to ensure that your little ones are safe and comfy.
If you're looking for a sleek, elegant pushchair that can convert into a side-byside double, the Egg 2 from Chicco is a great option. It's available in a variety of carrycot and infant seat configurations to accommodate twins or siblings of various age groups. It's also easy to fold. It's also relatively lightweight and therefore an ideal choice for families who have
small double stroller cars or only a little storage space.
Convertible
Some of the best double prams or pushchairs are configured into different seats to meet your changing needs. It is possible to fit up to three children on the seat board, or two toddlers in the seats with enough space to carry a shopping bag. Accessories such as rain covers are also available. Most convertible double strollers are bigger and heavier than single pushchairs due to the fact that they have to be capable of holding two or more children. The Graco Modes Nest2Grow convertible is an example of an affordable convertible that is simple to use. However, our reviewers found it to be quite heavy for the price.
Some convertible double strollers like the Baby Jogger City Select 2 has a carrycot option which is suitable for newborns. This reduces the size of the
double stroller when not in use and makes it smaller. Our testers were impressed with the City Select's innovative one-handed fold, although it does take some time to master. It's also quite agile and responsive, despite it being bigger than other
double pushchair with car seat strollers.
Another option that is reasonably priced is an affordable option is the Cybex Mockingbird Single-to-Double Stroller. It can be converted from a parent facing infant car seat to a forward-facing toddler seat. The bassinet feature is a great option for infants.
For more flexibility, look for a convertible with dual modes such as the iCandy Peach. It's a slim double stroller that is able to accommodate two children side-by-side. It can also be used to make a tandem by adding a second seating kit. It's responsive and agile, and our testers liked its sleek design. It's not as light as the other pushchairs in our list however it does come with an ample shopping basket that is great for parents who carry bags full of toys and food.
Lightweight
Convertible double strollers are an excellent option for parents who already have one child and are expecting another. The iCandy Peach can be converted from a single pushchair to double with the addition of a toddler seat, or the brand's carrycot (which is ideal for overnight sleeping). Our test subjects were impressed by how comfortable the seats are and love the fact that they both recline to multiple positions, come with built-in leg and foot support and generous UPF 50+ canopies with peekaboo windows. The rear seat can be raised high so that the child who is older can stand on it to reach the shopping basket.
Cher said that the one disadvantage of the iCandy Peach was its weight. However, she believed this was offset because it is easy to move and comes with plenty of storage space, including two cup holders for parents and children seats-back pockets, as well as a large basket underneath the seat. Cher also appreciated the seat's design, which is convertible, which means they can be set to face each other for siblings who want to talk and get together when out and out and about.
The Delta Children LX Side-by-Side Stroller is a lighter option however, it is still awe-inspiring. It weighs only 18 pounds, is small, and has a self standing fold, making it easy to transport or store in your trunk. Parents are impressed by the quality of materials and workmanship, and the price. The only downsides are that the seats do not recline as much as other models we have tested and the rear seat is not as well-lit due to its location as it is higher than the seat in front.
