This engine featured a 4-speed automatic transmission.

The top-of-the-line engine was a 3.9-liter V6, which produced 240 horsepower and 241 lb-ft of torque.  The engines were generally considered adequate, although not particularly powerful. The Pontiac G6 wasn't particularly fuel-efficient, with EPA ratings which range from 17 to 29 mpg with regards to the engine and transmission. The Pontiac G6 received good ratings for 2024 Pontiac crash safety from both National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
