What is Mesothelioma?

Workers in asbestos, veterans of the military and those who have mesothelioma-related history are among these groups. Additionally, people who have had asbestos-related radiation therapy are at a higher risk of mesothelioma.
Mesothelioma Symptoms

The biphasic type is a combination of the two first types and is responsible for between 30% and 40% of mesothelioma diagnoses.
Causes of Mesothelioma

Your doctor will perform an examination of your body and may require imaging scans to look for any abnormalities. These tests can include CT scans, MRIs and PET scans. These tests will help doctors determine if mesothelioma related changes are evident within your body.
Mesothelioma may not be contagious however, family members of those exposed to asbestos are more likely to developing the disease. Workers who were exposed to asbestos brought asbestos fibers home on their clothing, hair and skin. These individuals could inhale asbestos fibers. This type of secondhand exposure is referred to as secondary asbestos exposure.
Treatment for Mesothelioma
Like other cancers mesothelioma develops when cells within the body become abnormal and begin to grow out of control. They can also reproduce and spread to other areas of the body, causing tumors to develop.
