It’s really sad how finely orchestrated this scam was by an extreme far right group. Here are some facts: Shelley Luther is NOT a licensed hairdresser. She does NOT have any form of cosmetology license. She is NOT an employer. She doesn’t have a single person on payroll. She is a landlord salon owner that rents stations to independent, self-employed hair stylists. She rented to 19 hair stylists and only 2 were bold enough to come in during the stay at home orders. She admitted that she didn’t charge these stylists a dime to rent their stations from her during this time. She was crying to every news outlet out there that she just wanted to feed her kids. How exactly was she earning money to feed her kids by illegally opening her salon? She wasn’t charging for booth rental. She wasn’t cutting hair. Before she opened, she had already been backed by an extreme right-wing group, had a gofundme set up and hired an attorney.
This was all planned and NFT there is no way anyone can convince me she didn’t WANT to go to jail. Look at what happened- her gofundme was at 20k the day she went to jail. In less than 48 hours, her gofundme was at 500k. I’d say it paid off quite well for her. Not to mention the PPP forgivable loan she received or the many other donations outside of gofundme- including one from Sean Hannity. She also is a lead singer of a band and posted in mid March that all her paid gigs were getting canceled. About the same time she also went on an expensive cruise. She lives on a 5 acre 500k ranch. She does rescue animals but also has recently purchased several exotic animals that are ridiculously expensive. She is also receiving child support. She did NOT do all this because she needed to feed her kids. Shelley and her kids were doing just fine.

She manipulated so many incredibly big-hearted hair stylists who were TRULY financially struggling. She made them believe that they should bow down to her because she was the reason salons opened 10 days earlier than expected. And that may be the ONLY thing that Shelley did. She used a pandemic to advance her own selfishness and Abbott & his BFF’s bought into it hook, line and sinker and opened salons early- against the medical advice he had previously received. She was loud, incredibly disrespectful to county leaders and created political chaos. She used people for their donations and received celebrity-type attention across the country. Our Republican leaders used Shelley for their own political agenda. How embarrassing this entire situation is for ALL Texans. Abbott showed me what a truly weak leader he is. This is a crazy and heart-breaking time for humanity. What is more important than humanity? I have a lot of respect for Clay Jenkins and Judge Moye. This has nothing to do with politics. They both did their jobs well and should be shown respect. Like I said, this is a sad situation. Please tip your stylists extra for your next service. 99.999% stayed home and put humanity over their own financial well-being. They deserve applause- not Shelley Luther.
