Choosing a Double
Pushchair TwinYou need a double stroller to take your twins from one place to B. Our range of twin prams includes twin buggies that can be configured in a variety of ways to meet your requirements.
Choose a stroller which can be folded in just one step and easily lifted into your car. You might also want a lighter design, especially in high traffic streets.
Side-by-Side
This is the most popular double pushchair. It is usually able to accommodate two children side-by-side. They tend to be wider than single pushchairs. This makes them less able to maneuver on paths. It is also difficult to maneuver up and down kerbs when an automobile seat is installed. The extra size allows them to move more easily through doors, and they are more evenly distributed so that it is easier for you to carry them on your back.
Many models are able to be used as
twin pram prams and take a carrycot, or two car seats. Some models can be converted into one mode by adding a basket alongside (like the Cybex Venus).
The Bugaboo Donkey 5 is a great example of this. In Twin Mode, you can fit the rear seat next to a carrycot. This lets you create an enclosed twin space and is perfect for babies. This pram comes with some very cool accessories, including the newborn cocoons that can be positioned either facing towards the front or in any direction (for twin-facing prams). It's not as light as some other options but it is really cleverly thought out.
Lightweight
Cybex is known for its unique pushchairs, and the single-to-double isn't an exception. The frame can be expanded to accommodate a second seat. You can use the pushchair as a twin from birth by putting in two newborn cocoons, each costing PS59. These cocoons create enclosed lie-flat spaces. The large shopping basket behind the seat allows it to be used in mono mode for a single child. It comes with both front and rear suspensions which means it can take on bumps and uneven surfaces more easily. Our reviewers chose this car as their top pick.
Available in a variety of fashionable colors.
Tandem
If you're planning to have twins, you'll require a pushchair that is tandem. This will allow both children to sit together and see each other. They are ideal for activities such as visiting the zoo as the children can look at all the animals together. These are also great for parents who want to watch both their toddler and their baby at the same time.
Some tandem pushchairs provide ultra flexibility since they can be converted back to single mode. This is particularly useful if you plan to have more than two children (or if your eldest child isn't a need for the buggy anymore). This means that you won't have an empty pushchair that you need to store away which can be expensive.
The Cybex Venus, for example, can be used either in mono or double mode. Its frame can expand to accommodate a second seat. This isn't the heaviest of pushchairs, but it does come with a large shopping basket which is located behind the front seat in double mode (and in the back of the seat when it's mono mode). The seats can either be placed in a way that they face each opposite or higher up to see what each is doing.
Double tandem pushchairs, such as the Joolz Geo 3, are able to seat one above the other or side-by-side. They feature a sleek, compact frame that makes them easier to maneuver through doorways and aisles in supermarkets Some models can also be used as a jogging stroller or on rough terrain thanks to a four-wheel suspension as well as wide rear wheels.
Another advantage of a tandem pushchair is that it can use two carrycots or a car seat, and a buggy seat. This means you can create an entire travel system from the outset and save money on additional purchases. It's worth remembering, however, that tandems can be heavier and longer than single pushchairs, and may feel less stable when bumping up kerbs or going over uneven surfaces. They also need dismantling to fit into cars.
