A mom has revealed how she shed 185lbs after making the 'bone-chilling' realization that she had no family photos because of shame over her weight.

Maggie Wells, 34, weighed more than 300 pounds and largely refused to feature in any snapshots before coming to a sudden realization on New Year's Day in 2018.

The mom-of-three, who is based in the US, told Good Morning America: 'I wasn't afraid I was going to die because of my weight, but I was afraid that just if something happened, my kids would have no pictures to remember me.'

And the thought was enough to spark Maggie into action as she undertook a rigorous diet regime to shift the weight.

Maggie, who has a 12-year-old stepson, eight-year-old son and six-year-old daughter, said that after being 'struck' by the uncomfortable thought she immediately made several lifestyle changes.

The doting mom lost 24 pounds within the first month and her success only spurred her on further.

Maggie, who works in real estate, largely stuck to a simple keto diet - focusing on eating foods high in fat and low in carbohydrates.

'I don't have time to be making substitute breads and all of those things,' she said. 'I found that this diet can be done by anybody on any budget.' 

She ultimately lost 185 in a single year on her overhauled diet alone - only recently introducing exercise into her daily routine.

The dieter told the outlet: 'I feel like I'm 15 years younger. I don't know how to describe it other than I feel like a brand new person.

'I have mental clarity and literally a whole new lease on life.'
