Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?

It's easy to move around with a lightweight double pushchair, especially if you have children of different age groups. They're typically simple to steer, fold and transport up and down stairs.

imageThis City Mini GT2 features side-by-side seating with plenty of legroom. It also has adjustable reclining, large UPF 50+ canopy and peekaboo windows. It also comes with a frame that expands in the width to accommodate the second car seat or an additional passenger.

Side-by-Side

The majority of the light double pushchairs we tried were side-by-side models. They are ideal for children who can sit up without assistance, since they tend to lack compatibility with car seats. The Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and the Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double, are both excellent options. They have adjustable recline for both seats, a huge canopy, and padded five-point safety harnesses. They are also easy to maneuver despite their larger footprint. They are great for parents who worry about fitting through doors.

The Cybex Duet pushchair is unique because of its clever frame that expands to allow for another child seat. This makes it slimmer than other pushchairs that are side-by-side. It is able to fit through doors of standard size and is easy to maneuver on public transportation. It can also be used as a jogger, which is great news when you're planning to use it in conjunction with a baby carrier or infant car seat. It's available in a range of fun colors.

Another great side-by-side, lightweight double is the UPPAbaby Vista v2 Double, that offers more customization with a modular frame. It features a clever design that allows you to turn it into a single buggy or a double with the addition of 2 carrycots or car seats (it can even accommodate twins). It is a practical option for families growing. The umbrella stroller UPPAbaby is one of the lightest, sexiest and stylish strollers available.

Try the egg2 that folds down to the size and weight of a tiny suitcase. It can be used either as a single or double by adding 2 baby car seats or carrycots. Our home testers were impressed with the ease of maneuver even with a full load of children.

Double pushchairs with side-by-side seating aren't 100% foolproof, however- if your children are at the same age or stage, they might still argue over who rides in which seat. If they're at different heights it could be that a tandem design might be more suitable for them since it allows them to face each other.

Tandem

While side-by-side models are more appropriate for siblings who are the same age tandem pushchairs are light and lightweight, and are a different kind of pushchair with their own appeal. Some can fit an extra car seat, while some have Reversible seats. Others have an additional carrycot or reversible seat in the middle. They tend to be more spacious and easy to get in and out of however their baskets are typically smaller than those of single buggies. They also have larger big canopies with windows that peek out, as well as one parent cup holder and padding for the legs of children.

The iCandy Peach is another example of a lightweight and affordable tandem. The fabrics are a little less luxurious than some of our top-rated doubles. But, it looks great and is easy to use. One of the most impressive aspects about it is its one-handed fold. While it does require practice, Kirstie in our Lab declared it to be "genius". The carrycot can't be folded while it is attached. However, the mechanism to attach and remove the carrycot is quick and easy.

Tandem double pushchairs are light and lightweight. They typically make tighter turns than side-byside models, however they are more challenging to drive over bumps and uneven surfaces. They can also be slower to accelerate and are heavier to move. This can put strain on your back.

Another alternative is a convertible double buggy, which is initially one-person, but you add adapters to turn it into a double. It can have an additional seat or carrycot in the front, or the children can sit side-by-side. Some of them also have the option to add a buggy board, which can aid an older child keep up with younger siblings.

The Uppababy Vista V2 can be transformed into a best twin buggy-sized stroller by purchasing additional cocoons at PS59 each. These cocoons create an area that is flat for newborns. They can be positioned in a row or joined to one another, and you can use them in conjunction with the infant car seat that is included with the pushchair (as long as you choose the right one). Because they're made from high-quality materials, these dual-use buggies can often be used for a long time without displaying much wear, indicating they have the highest potential for resale.

Single-to-Double

This compact double buggy was designed for families who love to go on outdoor adventures and are looking to upgrade from a single-stroller. It can be transformed into a jogger by acquiring the kit that comes with air-filled tires and all-wheel-suspension. It's also a good option for twins or children of different age groups, and as a triple tandem, it's able to take on rough terrain. It's a great choice for parents who want a sleek style that's as elegant as a single and double stroller. It comes in different fabric colours.

We were impressed by the way this iCandy model folds up with a one-handed mechanism that's very easy to master. It's also heavier than other single-to-double pushchairs featured in this review, our home tester Karolina stated that it is very maneuverable, even with two toddlers and a carrycot inside.

You can purchase add-ons such as the Roma Gemini Carrycots (PS100) which are great for babies. The seats are comfortable for toddlers, with excellent headrests and lumbar support. There are a variety of options for reclined seats with the front seat can be adjusted to different positions, and the back seat having an option to recline.

This type of buggy comes with the biggest disadvantage of being wider than the side-by-side doubles. This makes it difficult to navigate through doorways and it can be difficult to move between kerbs. The suspension and wheels of these models are generally good at coping with surfaces that are paved. They're also lighter than many side-bysides and, therefore, you can have plenty of storage. These strollers aren't easy to maneuver around supermarkets with narrow aisles and they may struggle to carry a large amount. Even though it's easier to turn the stroller around on a small curved path, this can be a challenge. Some are easier to turn than others models, like the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double or Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double.

Convertible

Convertible double pushchairs are fantastic because they are able to be adapted to the changing needs of families. Often, they start as single buggies. They include adapters that permit you to add a second child's chair, a carrycot, or (in certain instances) an automobile seat to the frame. Some can be converted to a single when your child's older age begins to walk or wants to ride a buggyboard.

One of the lightest double strollers on our list, this fashionable tri-fold model can carry children up to 40 lbs each. It also has an easy-to-use basket between the seats for storage. The large canopy with a peekaboo window, multi-position reclining seats and front and back suspension for smoother rides on rough terrain were well-loved by the home testers. It also has an easy-to-use cup holder for parents and a large accessible, easily accessible basket. They did note that the backs have tiny pockets, that are just large enough to hold a phone and a set of keys.

This lightweight, high-end side-by-side is available in more than 20 models. It also includes a second chair and carrycot.
