A young couple were left horrified when they bought a second hand sofa only to find thousands of fingernail clippings beneath it which 'sounded like uncooked rice' when the mess was hoovered up. 

Jess Louise, of Larne, Co Antrim, and her boyfriend were initially delighted with their new settee, but the pair made the revolting discovery after losing their TV remote down the side of it.

After rummaging around trying to find the controller, Ms Louise's boyfriend pulled out a disgusting haul of rubbish - along with a few fingernails. 

The couple then unearthed the mass of nail clippings underneath the cushions.

Ms Louise posted a horrifying image of her discovery on Facebook, writing: 'Upon inspection and multiple gags later, we retrieved not hundreds but thousands of finger nails of varying sizes.

'I don't know the rate of nail growth this person has but they must have been on some kind of growth supplements.

'Or had about 10 extra hands and feet.

'We then hoovered out the remaining nails, it sounded like uncooked rice being hoovered up.

'My goodness I have never been so disgusted in my entire life.'

Ms Louise's post received more than 3,700 likes and shares, and attracted a series of disgusted comments.

Explaining how she came to own the sofa, soundlex Test Ms Louise had written: 'Recently my sofa broke and I was not in a position to buy a brand new one.

'I also knew buying a new one would lead to a lot of stress with two dogs bounding about the house, I'd be so protective of it.

'This led me to looking for a second hand sofa.

'I found a decent looking set, smoke and pet free home, once they arrived they did not smell or give me any reason to turn my nose up.'

But she added: 'Until my partner was doing the daily ''Where's the remote, you have it?'' routine.

'The remote was down the side of the sofa, when sticking his hand down to grab it he felt a load of yuck.

'He pulled out said yuck and it was a handful of sweetie wrappers and fingernails.'
