Tools
Having the right tools available is critical when on the job. This kit was developed with this in mind and includes all of the basic hand tools needed to repair items in the field. Repair Patches
If you've got holes or two in your gear, think about adding adhesive patches to your
rep kit. These heavy-duty patches feature an ultra-high-performance adhesive that is applied to a tough polyurethane backing that lets a tear heal under pressure. These patches are available in colors or clear versions and offer durability against punctures as well as sun, moisture, saltwater and temperature extremes.
If your
free avon starter kit doesn't include one of the items mentioned above, you may want to consider adding a water-proof Aquaseal wader sealant. The water-tight adhesive bonds to fabrics and metals to provide permanent repair. It's great for repairing drysuits, and can be applied out in the field. Let the sealant sit for up to 12 hours to dry before you can use the repaired equipment.
The most essential field fabric repair kit for nylon tents impregnated with silicone, packs, rainwear and more. Includes one Clean Tape patch and a sil nylon repair swatch, plus a 1/4 ounce tube of Gore-Tex Silfix repair adhesive and sealant, as well as a brush. Apply patch to a clean smooth surface. There should be a minimum of 1/2 inch overlap. Remove the release paper from the patch surface and rub the adhesive with moderate finger pressure (adhesive side down).
Surface preparation is vital for successful repairs. Sunblock, acetone or oil on boots and shoes can affect adhesion. Make use of Seam Grip with Cotol 240 Cure Accelerator for best results.
Adhesive Patches
If you're out on the trail but aren't able to do complete vulcanising repairs the patches that are self-adhesive will allow you to get back in the saddle without the wait. Simply roughen the tube using the included scraper, then apply one of the self-adhesive patches to apply it to the tube.
Use the tube-scuffer for roughening the surface. This will help the glue stick. Then spread a thin layer of glue over the patch that covers an area at least as big as the patch itself. Give it a few minutes to allow the glue to become tacky before pressing the patch down and holding it securely in the place.
This kit comes with two adhesive-backed, clear Tenacious Tape fabric repair patches. It also comes with one quarter ounce of Seam Grip urethane sealant and repair adhesive. Ideal for strengthening damaged tents, sleeping bags as well as rainwear, packs and boots.
