Tools
It is important to have the right tools on the go when you are in the field. This kit was developed with this in mind and includes all the hand tools needed to repair equipment in the field. The tools are made of steel with a minimum of plastic to ensure they can withstand use. The kit includes the pouch made of canvas that is zippered to hold coalcracker tools, a twist awl, reamer cutting shears and Gimlets (5MM). It also comes with a bottle of coalcracker oil with illustrated instructions and a wooden spool an reamer, and a twist Awl.
You can purchase this kit with a bag (prices are listed above) or purchase the tools alone.
Repair Patches
If you've got a gap or two in your gear, you might want to consider adding adhesive patches to your rep kit. These heavy-duty patches come with high-performance adhesives that are applied to a durable polyurethane backing that lets a tear heal under pressure. The patches are available in colors or clear versions and provide durability against punctures as well as moisture, sunlight as well as extreme temperatures and saltwater.
If your kit doesn't contain any of the above items, think about adding a bag with waterproof Aquaseal wader repair sealant. This water-tight adhesive will bond to metals and fabrics for a permanent fix. It's great for repairing drysuits, and can be applied while on the job. Give the sealant at least 12 hours to cure before using your repaired equipment.
The essential field repair kit for nylon tents impregnated with silicone,
packs, rainwear and more. Includes one Clean Tape patch and a sil-nylon repair swatch as well as a 1/4 ounce tube of Gore-Tex Silfix repair adhesive & sealant and brush. Remove the release paper from the patch surface and rub the adhesive with moderate finger pressure (adhesive side down).
Surface preparation is essential to ensure successful repairs. Oils on boots or shoes sunblock, solvents such as Acetone could affect adhesion. Use Seam Grip with Cotol 240 Cure Accelerator to achieve the best results.
Adhesive patches
These adhesive patches are perfect for people who don't want to stay in the waiting room until they can get back on the trail. Apply the self-adhesive patch, then apply it by rolling it around.
Clean up the area that has been punctured and then make use of the tube-scuffer to roughen the surface which assists in making glue stick. Apply a thin layer of glue over the patch. Cover an area that is at least as big as the patch. Allow the glue to get tacky and then press the patch down with a firm pressure and secure it.
