The Ghost immobiliser was developed to prevent key cloning. OBD port hacking
OBD port hacking is the newest method employed by professional car thieves to steal cars. Thieves are able to access your vehicle's OBD port with little more than a laptop, an application, and a few cables that can be purchased online for less than PS50. Once they have access, they will be able to do anything they like to do, from resetting your vehicle's fault codes, tuning your vehicle, or stealing it within a matter of minutes.
It can protect your vehicle from being stolen by requiring a specific PIN number to be entered with your key fob prior to you start the engine or leave. It communicates with the vehicle's ECU (Engine Control Unit) by using the CAN Data Circuit. It is not detected by any RF scanning technology or code grabbing. It even comes with a Service/Valet option that will allow your vehicle to be started without the need for a PIN code.
To use an OBD hacking device you need to have a laptop with software capable of reading the OBD protocol, which can be bought for less than PS100 on eBay or Amazon. You will also need cables with OBD pins that connect to the CAN bus, these are available on eBay and Amazon for about PS50. You then need to splice the cable into the wire harness of your vehicle, for example, in the radio wiring harness.
Once the hacker has access to the OBD port on your vehicle, they are able to send diagnostics to the system with high baud rates, which will crash the car's CAN and prevent the systems from working. This could cause your vehicle's engine to stall or stop working.

The PIN code is able to be changed to block previous drivers, or even add an override code in case you forget the sequence. When installing, the installer will demonstrate how to accomplish this. The system has a valet-mode feature that can be used to temporarily disable pin input sequences so that the garage or mechanic can work on the vehicle without knowing the pin number. This is a great option for customers who don't want their pin number to be divulged, but want to leave their car with valet parking or service.
