Ghost immobilisers use an innovative technology that is very difficult for thieves to beat. OBD port hacking
OBD port hacking is the newest method employed by professional car thieves to steal vehicles. Thieves can gain access to your vehicle's OBD with the help of a laptop, mobile app, and some cables that are available on the internet for less than PS50. Once they have access, they will be able to do whatever they want including resetting your vehicle's fault codes to tuning your car, or even taking it away in under a minute.
It can protect your vehicle from being stolen by requiring a unique PIN sequence to be entered with your key fob prior to you can start the engine or leave. It communicates with the vehicle's ECU (Engine Control Unit), using the CAN Data Circuit. It is not detected by any scanning technology, RF or code grabbing. It comes with a Service/Valet mode that allows your vehicle to start without requiring a PIN code.
You'll also require a cable with OBD pins, which are connected to the CAN bus. These cables are available on Amazon/Ebay for around PS50. You will also need an OBD cable that has OBD pins that are connected to the CAN bus. These are available on eBay and Amazon for about PS50. The next step is to connect the cable into the wire harness of your vehicle, for example, in the radio wiring harness.
Once the hacker has a connection to your vehicle's OBD port, they are able to send diagnostics to the system at high baud rates which will crash the CAN, and prevent systems within your car from working. This could cause your car's engine to stall or even shut down.
