Saab Key Programming
Saab cars that were built prior to 1994 have an immobilizer system made up of coded keys. Adding an extra key requires a new transponder and special programming. This is usually done by the dealer using a Tech2 diagnostic tool.
This can be expensive. It is recommended to always have a spare set of keys at hand.
Transponder key
The transponder is a type of key equipped with an electronic chip. The chip transmits a signal when the key is placed into the ignition. The car checks to see whether the signal is the same as the one on the key. If the signals are in sync the car will then unlock and begin. This is a great way to stop car theft and keep your car safe from thieves.
Transponder keys may be an extremely popular accessory for cars, but they're not as secure as traditional keys made of metal. The metal component of the traditional key can easily be cut or copied, while a transponder has an electronic chip that guards it. The chip contains a unique code that's programmed into the car's computer in order to identify it.
When a Saab key fob is used, the car recognizes it and allows it to turn on. However, it can only do this if your key fob has a non-modified chip that has been programmed to match it. Otherwise, the car would reject the key and not start.
It is essential to ensure that you have a spare key for your Saab. This is particularly important especially if you live in a rural area with many car thieves. The good part is that you can get a replacement key for your
saab car key without needing to visit a dealership and pay the expensive prices that they demand. You can have a replacement key created on the spot for less than half of the cost you would spend at dealerships.
Key for Wired
saab 93 key fob replacement cars usually come with two keys upon purchase. If you only have one, it is recommended to purchase an extra key fob as soon as you can in case you lose it the car will require an entirely new CIM unit and the locking cylinders need to be replaced. This can be costly especially for used vehicles.
The next step is to connect the row and column wires to the microcontroller. This is the most challenging part of the project and will require a large deal of soldering. It's not a common way to do it, but you must plan how to connect and solder each column and row. There are 22 microcontroller pins and wires to connect to this keyboard. It includes 5 rows and 17 column.
After the rows and column are soldered together It is now time to connect the key switches. Solder a diode to each key switch pin. This will shield the pins from current, and prevent them from being shorted. A diode allows the flow of current to be in one direction, and has a a black band visual indicator that indicates the direction in which current will flow.
Sanabria states that a number of the tools sold in auto parts stores, such as the Autel MaxiIM IM608PRO and IM508 can assist customers who are shopping or DIY customers to program replacement keys and restore immobilizer data. The tools plug into OBD ports and help the customer through each step and make the process more straightforward than replacing the vehicle's computer.
Jump-starting the battery
Most people keep a set of jumper cables in their trunks to use in an emergency however, jumping a battery on newer vehicles might not be the most efficient option. These cars are equipped with a variety of computers and digital devices which communicate with each other. A surge in voltage when the battery is connected to another battery could fry these components and render your vehicle unable to drive.
Start the vehicle that is working and allow it to run for around two minutes before connecting the cables to the non-working one. Attach the red clip to the positive terminal of the good battery. (It will say "POS" or "+".) Attach the other end to a clean, unpainted metal surface beneath the hood of the affected vehicle. The engine block is an excellent choice. The black cable should not be connected to the negative terminal of the dead battery. This could create sparks, which would ignite the gasoline inside the engine compartment.
Once the cables are connected, you should begin the car and let it run about five minutes. Then disconnect the cables in reverse. The battery in your Saab 9-3 is recharged as you drive. It will take a while for it to return to its original state. It's a good idea to buy a spare key fob as soon as you can, since replacing the sole working one requires the installation of a new computer module and special programming to convince it that the lost keys aren't in the process of trying to steal the car.
Replacement case
Many
saab Ignition key owners only have one key for
Saab Ignition Key their vehicle and if they lose that the cost will be. It's costly to add the key and also requires replacing the CIM or TWICE for older models. In the event of theft, or any other catastrophe it is advisable to have an extra key. But don't buy a used key even the case that it's "new." Keys that are claimed-new from a second-hand store will not be effective and are almost guaranteed to fail at the critical moment.
The dealer will charge you top dollar if you have only one working key. We can reset and reprogram the computer's EEEPROM to get it ready to accept a new key without replacing the entire system. This could save you a lot of money. It's less expensive rather than wait until you loose the only key.
