If your car is just around 10 to 12 years old, there is a big chance that you can find everything you need from the recycler's place. The good news about recycled spare parts is that recyclers would be happy to sell you the parts you need for a fraction of their original price. Most recyclers even give warrantees on the spare parts they are selling so that it would be easy for you to return or replace the parts that are defective or are not really suitable for your car.
Before you start looking for buyers, go through the vehicle for any important or valuable personal items. A key element is whether the car is running or not. This can help to determine if it's worth the effort to go further in the cleaning process. A good general wash can either hurt or increase the salvage value, however, most recyclers shouldn't care as it just depends on what they're planning to do with the vehicle. A general scrapper will simply rip everything out to be crushed. Some yards look at the car on a part-by-part basis where the quality of individual elements such as the engine, is important. Those with an eco-friendly vibe may want to remove fluids such as oil, coolant and gasoline as well.
Is there any risk involved? You're taking more of a risk when buying from these type of car auctions because the cars are sold in as-is condition and will need repairs and/or body work done. Sometimes the repairs could be as little as replacing a bumper to something so serious the car can only be used for parts. The car could've also been in a flood which will cause the electrical system to go out sooner or later. So, know what you're getting into!

The owners of these little side car dealerships love to make a fast buck and are often more than willing to part with a few vehicle parts to make some fast cash.

You will also need a drill with a #2 phillips head and one box of 2 1/2" course thread dry wall screws. Finally find some old 1 x lumber from your old material resource or you can use new 1x6 fence board of redwood or cedar purchased for about $2.00 per 6' board at your home improvement store. You will need 4 pieces of 1x6 - 6' long.
Unfortunately, treasure hunting is more of a hobby than an occupation. Being the Indiana Jones of the seas is definitely a lucrative hobby if your research is correct, but it is just as likely that it will be wrong. That is why it is important to have a "real" job that pays the bills and puts food on the table.
