1. Neato Botvac D4
This Neato is a great option for those who want to benefit from the convenience of a robotic vacuum cleaner but not sacrifice a lot in terms of performance. The D4 is a great option for those looking for an automated vacuum that comes with lots of features. It has nifty navigation and mapping tools along with smart home integration, and an easy-to-use app.
You can configure the bot by connecting it to its base and then connecting it to your home Wi Fi network. The Neato app will guide you through the initial setup (linking the D4 to Wi-Fi and naming it and so on, etc.). When the D4 is fully charged it's time to start a cleaning cycle.
Once the D4 is operational it allows you to set up a schedule automatically or manually at any time. You can also make use of your voice to control it using Google Home or Amazon Alexa. If you have an Apple Watch, you can even start cleaning sessions with a simple tap on the wrist.
In our tests, this model cleaned well on both hard and carpeted floors, picking up 91.3 percent of the debris in serpentine paths. However, it's not as great at edge and corner cleaning as more expensive models--its side sensors keep the D4 about 1.5 inches away from walls. Also, it doesn't have the side-sweeping brush found on all, if not the cheapest robotic cleaners. Furthermore, its raised turret means it can't be used under furniture with low clearance. It does support virtual No-Go Lines, so you can draw lines on your floor plan to tell the D4 not to travel there. The battery life of 75 minutes is also fairly average. This is a small price to pay for the convenience offered by this model.
2. IRobot Roomba 980
The iRobot Roomba is the flagship robot from the company, offering premium performance and features that are connected. The retail price of the 980 is $899 or PS899 but you can often find it for

The 980 is the most advanced of our top choices. It comes with a HEPA-filter which can trap micronized dust and allergens to improve air quality in your house. It also works with a wide range of flooring types including tiles and hardwoods.
One of the most prominent characteristics of the 980 is its top-mounted camera and SLAM sensor that enable it to navigate more effectively than other Roombas, even in tight spaces such as hallways and corners. iRobot calls this technology iAdapt 2.0, and it makes use of snapshots taken by the camera to create an internal map. This allows the 980 to keep its track of where it is so that it doesn't waste cleaning time on areas it has already cleaned.
iRobot also added new capabilities that are smarter than ever, like a spot-cleaning feature that lets you designate the area of your home as not accessible to the 980. This feature was not the most advanced or largest that we tested, but it was effective and a welcome feature. The 980 can also be controlled by voice commands via Alexa or Google Assistant. The robot can sometimes take several minutes to complete an order.
The Roomba 980 is also able to automatically return to its base station after it's done with its cleaning task, ensuring it's always ready for its next adventure. This feature is only available to the 980, making the robot more convenient.
3. iRobot 985
iRobot Roomba is designed to make your floors more beautiful, cleaner and more powerful thanks to its powerful cleaning system, intelligent navigation, and smart integration with other iRobot devices. Its patented dirt detection system warns you of areas that need extra attention, and also includes smart sensors that keep it away from steps and other potentially dangerous obstacles. It will also automatically recharge and continue cleaning until the task has been completed. Its intelligent mapping and vSLAM technology let it navigate through the entire level of your home, and keep the track of the places it's been and which rooms it's yet to clean.
Its low profile makes it easier to move under furniture and other objects where dust, pet hair, and dirt are often hidden. It also removes dirt from edges and corners, unlike other robot vacuums. You can schedule cleaning times using the iRobot App or with your voice, using Alexa and Google Assistant.
The iRobot Roomba 985 uses the top-quality lithium-ion batteries which charge faster and last longer than other brands. The battery is covered by a 12-month warranty and is guaranteed to function under normal operating conditions. Its high-impact ABS and polycarbonate plastic construction offers durability. Gold contacts, coupled with resistance welding and a durable circuitry ensure long-term reliability.
4. iRobot Roomba 990
iRobot’s latest robot has the highest level of obstacle-avoiding performance of any Roomba we've tested due to its front camera and laser sensor. This makes it able to avoid wires and pet feces much better than other robotic vacuums that we've reviewed, such as the EcovacsN8Pro, Roborock S6MaxV and many more.
It's also iRobot's strongest vacuum, capable of grabbing dirt with more granular debris and hairy pet hair that is larger, unlike other mid-range models such as the Roomba 960. This is due to the fact that the cleaner has wider brushes that rotate counter-clockwise and a motor with greater suction power.
The Roomba 995 is also iRobot's lowest-cost vacuum, with recharge and resume features, but it doesn't come with the auto-empty system that the I6+ and I7 offer. It's not equipped with the iAdapt navigation 2.0 and the camera used by the I7 to identify objects and avoid obstacles. This means it can't save maps or use features in-app that contain information, such as no-go zones.
Another drawback is that the iRobot 995 doesn't include mopping capabilities. Although this might not be an issue for those who need a top vacuum,
Lidar Robot vacuum cleaner it's a big disadvantage for anyone who wants to use the hybrid robot.
The other iRobot that has automatic emptying is the Combo J7+, which can both vacuum and mop. It has the same navigation capabilities as the I6+ and I7 but does not have iAdapt 2.0 and cameras. It isn't able to save any maps and doesn't have the same features for in-app containment as the I7 or S9. The Combo J7+ has improved automation thanks to iRobot Genius, and can recognize your cleaning patterns and plan cleaning schedules automatically. It also has a bigger dust bin than the I6+ and I7 It can hold 2.5 Liters of debris which is enough to last for 60 days.
5. Roomba 960 from iRobot
A less expensive alternative to the 980, the 960 delivers similar performance in a smaller package. It works well on carpeted and bare floors and is able to pick up food crumbs and tracked-in dirt. It's also excellent in navigating and avoiding obstacles. It does a good job of cleaning embedded dirt.
This robot uses iAdapt navigation 2.0 to track its position. This lets it move around the area efficiently and avoid becoming stuck. It can see the floor as well as its obstacles and objects by using SLAM and a top-mounted camera. It even has a low profile that lets it go under tables and couches. And it's able to return to its dock for recharging when necessary.
The 960's navigational system, although lacking some of the latest features, like map-saving and selective cleaning of rooms, is superior to that of the majority of robots. It also has a bigger dust bin than the 690.
