The data is then compiled into a complex, three-dimensional representation of the surveyed area which is referred to as a point clouds which can be viewed on an onboard computer system for navigation purposes. The point cloud can be further reduced to display only the desired area.
Alternatively, the point cloud can be rendered in true color by comparing the reflected light with the transmitted light. This makes it easier to interpret the visual and more accurate analysis of spatial space. The point cloud may also be labeled with GPS information, which provides temporal synchronization and accurate time-referencing that is beneficial for quality control and time-sensitive analysis.
LiDAR is employed in a myriad of applications and industries.
