Therefore, bitcoin’s value is almost completely untethered to that of other currencies, which makes its risk nearly impossible to hedge for businesses and customers and renders it more or less useless as a tool for risk management. Bitcoin miners use software that accesses their processing capacity to solve transaction-related algorithms. The high proportion of wind energy on the ERCOT grid, where almost 1/4 of the Bitcoin mining network are now located, is another factor for the strong showing from wind (see ERCOT 2023 Generating Capacity below).
