Like the other Breville machines we've tested, the Barista Express is designed for users who want to practice their skills. It doesn't come with certain of the sophisticated features that are present in other Breville machines, for instance, an automatic milk frother or a display that shows how much pressure or water is being used. However, this doesn't mean the Barista Express isn't a great alternative for coffee enthusiasts who want to upgrade from their current home espresso machine.

This model comes with 4 portafilters, including both the pressurized and unpressurized versions. The machine is also equipped with a high-quality tamper that is convenient and easy to use. The tamper is adjustable so you can achieve the appropriate amount of pressure when making a shot. It also has an infusion stage with low pressure which can help make the grind even and allow for a more consistent extraction at 9 bars of pressure.

This machine was created by Sage (or Breville in other countries) for those who desire coffee at home that is of a high-quality. It has a couple of features which set it apart from the competition. It uses an in-built bottomless filter that gives the shot a nice look and lets you see how much pre infusion has occurred. It also has a manual switch that keeps the machine in pre-infusion mode until you press it again. This is an amazing feature that resembles how baristas in cafes work and makes it easy to create amazing shots each time.

It also comes with an impressive steam pressure gauge and the ability to adjust the pre-infusion power according to the time taken for extraction. This feature isn't found on most domestic machines however it can make a huge difference to the quality of your shots. It also has a convenient window that shows the level of water so you can determine when it is time to refill.

This model is distinct from other Sage models due to its a double boiler system. It's able to steam and brew simultaneously, which is very useful when making milk-based drinks. It also comes with a PID, which gives you control over the brew temperature which isn't possible on many other machines. The only downside is that this machine costs more than a single boiler or heat exchanger systems.

The EB590 also has a range of other features. It can be programmed to ensure that it is turned on at a certain time, so that it's there for you whenever you need it. It doesn't come with the same app-based technology or pressure gauge as the Oracle one, but it is a great machine to use. It has a large water tank and can be used with filter coffee, as well as ground coffee. It also comes with steam wands and a digital guide display. Its three second heating time is impressive. Many commercial machines take a long time to get up to the required temperature for extraction.

This makes it stand out amongst its rivals. It has multiple fittings for the brew basket that allow you to use different filters as well as a removable cone to allow you to use a reusable filter. The automatic purge feature makes sure that the water temperature is kept consistent throughout the making process. The machine also has a stainless steel tank which is built to last. It comes with an 1800W heating system that includes thermocoils that ensure you get the highest quality espresso every time.

The machine does not come with a built-in coffee grinder. To get the best out of this machine, it is recommended that you use a Sage Barista Touch grinder or an external grinder with the option of a dose-control setting.
