Keys stolen or lost
It's as simple as ever to copy the key onto your vehicle as it was 20 years ago. Modern keys are equipped with an electronic chip. The chips provide a large degree of protection against key theft and copying. However, this doesn't mean that you will never lose your key.
If you do lose your keys, don't panic! Take a look at the places where you typically keep your keys. They could be in your pockets of your jacket, pants or even lying on the ground near your front entrance. If you are unable to locate your keys, call locksmiths who will come to your car to help you find them.

03-11 SAAB 9-3 owners know that the ignition key isn't very durable. The buttons can fall out and become stuck. You should create a copy of your ignition key if you just have one. This will help you stay away from any hassles.
Lockouts
Saab owners are advised to always have a spare key because it is simpler to replace a lost or stolen one. If you lose only one key, it's a different matter. It's expensive to add a second key and requires the dealer installing and programming the TWICE Module (Column Integration Module on older vehicles) as well as a brand new OEM key (not purchased from Amazon or eBay).
If you're experiencing problems with your remote control keys not locking or unlocking your car, you need to look for a variety of possible causes. The most common is a dead coin battery in the key fob. However, it can be caused by worn buttons as well as water damage, signal interference or receiver module issues.
If your issue continues to persist even after having tried all of these, you can try reprogramming your ignition key. This is done by changing (in inverse Hex) the number count to zero in the ECU. You'll need to open the case of your key fob in order to do this. This can be accomplished by removing the emergency key from the fob. Then, you can use a flathead tool to remove the fob's case to expose the battery. Be careful when doing this and do not pour or drop any liquids inside the fob because they could damage the electronic components within.

Since 1995 since 1995, every
saab 93 key fob replacement is required to have an immobilizer for the vehicle. This makes it almost impossible to steal a vehicle without a unique key. A transponder that is specialized for the vehicle must be included in the key to start the car and unlock doors. The key also needs a transmitter/transponder chip that needs to be matched with the car's computer module in order to work. This is something that can only be done at an authorized dealer, using the special tool called a Tech-2 or a similar kind of software.
It is not recommended to remove your broken key from your lock or ignition. This could cause damage to the lock and result in other problems. If you attempt to force a broken key out will usually result in the breaking of the metal key blade or the lock mechanism itself. This can be much more expensive than a key replacement done by a professional locksmith.
Replacement
Saab owners who purchased their Saab from 1994 and beyond are advised to have two working keys for their car. Replacing only one key is costly and complex. The dealer will need to replace the CIM (Column Integration Module) or TWICE (Theft Warning Integrated Central Electronics) depending on the model, and also the key itself. Furthermore, it will need to be programmed to work with the new module. Keys that are claimed-new from sellers on the aftermarket are usually not properly programmed and may fail to properly program when you need them.
It is not uncommon for the battery in a key fob to wear down after a few years of use, particularly if it is used often for locking and unlocking the car. Fortunately replacing the battery on the majority of SAAB 9-3 key fob models is easy and doesn't require any special tools.
A mobile SAAB locksmith can usually do this for 75% less than what a dealer will charge for the same service. Locksmiths don't have to replace the car's computers and can re-program the existing EEPROM to accept the new keys. This could help you save cash as a new computer for your car is expensive. This is why it is logical to call an emergency SAAB locksmith whenever you require a replacement key fob for your vehicle.
