Why a
seat leon key fob replacement Ibiza Replacement Key Won't Work
A new generation of driver assists enhances the Ibiza to a new level. Travel Assist makes sure your vehicle is able to keep up with traffic movements while Lane Assist takes the worry out of changing lanes.
Remove the key fob's cover for the battery compartment (A). By using a flat-head screwdriver a thumb nail, push the cover upwards, then replace the CR2025.
Dead Coin Battery
If your key fob stopped working and you're in a position to reprogram it using an updated code, then the most likely reason is a dead battery in the coin. The replacement of this battery should bring it back to life once more - you can do it yourself in less than 10 minutes.
Open the key first from the side, without the rings made of metal. There's a simple clip-on lid, that you can lift open using your nail. The old battery can be removed through the hole in the middle. Note: If you change the battery incorrectly, or using a battery not appropriate, it could cause damage to the remote. Always replace the battery with one of the same size, voltage and specifications as the original.
In the event that your key fob has been submerged in water, it could require cleaning the chip prior to replacing the battery. This is especially crucial if it was dropped into the sea or soapy water. This should be done immediately because exposure to water may damage the electronic chip and cause the key fob's functionality to cease.
Worn Buttons
Seat Ibiza keys stop working the majority of the time often because the battery is dead. This is not a problem and can be done in a couple of minutes. The key fob may stop working if the buttons are worn. This is a simple fix and only requires you to swap the old keyshell for a new one.
It is essential to replace the battery of the button cell correctly otherwise the key fob could become damaged. It is recommended that you always make sure you use a new battery of the same size, voltage, and specification. It's also important to ensure that the polarity of the new battery is facing upwards.
Rubber seals should keep water out of the key fob. However submerging the keyfob in water could cause the seals to break and cause damage to the electronic chip inside. This is the most likely scenario when the key fob is placed in the rain or accidentally falls into the pool. If your key fob still isn't working after replacing it or reprogramming, the receiver module may be faulty.
Water Damage
The rubber seals on the key fob block water from reaching the chip. However it's not enough to prevent the occasional bath or splash. If your pet has been through a wash cycle or an ocean swim, it may have damaged the chip.
This can be fixed by removing the battery and then cleaning the chip with isopropyl or electronic cleaner. Dry it completely and then put it back. If the chip is damaged, it will need to replace with a brand new one.
If your key fob still doesn't work after replacing the battery and reprogramming it, then it could be due to a problem with the receiver module. This is the part of the car that receives the signals from the keyfob, and then sends the signals to the key ignition system. If you have a spare key fob you can test it. The central locking should activate and the ignition system light should come on. If this does not happen it is possible that the receiver module could be defective. This is a costly repair but can be rectified by an expert at your local garage.
Radio Interference
The receiver module inside your key could be causing interference. Seat parts can provide an alternative key that comes with an entirely new receiver.
To replace the battery, pull out the key part and then using your thumb nail or a flat head screwdriver gently prise upwards the key fob battery compartment cover. Remove the CR2025 battery and insert a fresh one, making sure it is fitted with the correct direction of operation. You can also use a regular key that has transponder chip before on a worn or damaged key. It can be cut and coded to your car if required.
Faulty Receiver Module
The receiver module inside the fob that you have in your keys transmits radio signals to your car. If the fob ceases to function it could be because the module has failed. You can determine this with an OBDII scanner or by calling your dealer.
The remote keyless entry system is susceptible to interference from other devices that operate on the same frequency. This can include mobile phones, electrical devices and even some household appliances.
If the key fob is exposed clean tap water, it could be possible for you to clean the chip using paper towels and isopropyl alcohol. If the key fob has been submerged in salty or soapy water or sat for a long time on a surface that is wet, it is likely to be damaged and will need to be replaced.
To change the battery in your key fob using a thumb nail or small screwdriver with a flat head to pry open the cover of the button cell battery compartment (B). Remove the old battery and then insert an CR2025 replacement battery, making sure that the '+' polarity is facing upwards.
